What’s Cake Got To Do With It?

ALL MACRONUTRIENTS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOUR HEALTH
Here’s a Nutrition College story for you. I was living on campus at the University and sleepily reading my textbook which said, “ It takes a sea of carbohydrates to metabolize a couple of grams of protein.” Btw, that’s always going to be my favorite textbook quote for life. “Hmmm,” I thought, “This sounds like a good excuse to wake myself up with a piece of cake.” Well, I was wrong about that and that was back when I lacked discipline in my own personal nutrition (even though I was spending almost every waking moment reading nutrition textbooks). I gained a lot of weight from stress eating during that year of college. And yes, my go to was sugary, high in carbohydrates and fat, cake. I loved the icing, baking cakes in shapes and then covering them with thick goopy icing. Later, my weight told me I needed to start looking like a nutritionist and practicing what I preach. So that was the end of late night cakes and staying up all night snacking and studying. It turns out that I learned a lot from my experience gaining weight from eating so much cake.
What’s the moral of this story? The moral of this story is:
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
1) your body craves easily digestible sugars and carbohydrates when you are stressed and tired and in need (or actually sometimes not in need) of more energy. Don’t give in. The best time to stop eating for the day is at 6:00 pm or just before, if you’re not trying to gain weight. Good sleep hygiene is just as important as good nutrition. Sleep when you are tired. Eat when your body needs energy that it will use. #dietaryadvice
2) Yes, it is recommended to eat more carbohydrates than protein because during the metabolization in the body, it’s the carbohydrates (and of course stomach acids and such) that stir up the proteins and break them down to amino acids so they can be converted to energy. So yes, it is important to eat more carbs than protein and Scientists have discovered that a diet containing about 25% of protein and about 60% of it as carbohydrates makes. A good ratio to allow for proper breakdown of macronutrients.
3) No, this does not mean eat lots of cake. High fiber carbohydrates, which are found in fruits and vegetables and nuts, seeds, and grain, are more beneficial than sugary, highly processed foods when it comes to metabolism and feeding the cells what they need to stay healthy. #🍇not🍭 #familynutrition
4) For a generally healthy adult, 10% to 25% of daily macronutrient intake should be Protein foods. 🥚🥜🥚🍗
5) Generally healthy adults should eat 20% to 35% fats in their daily diet. #avocado
6) Generally healthy adults should consume about 45% to 65% of their daily diet as carbohydrates and preferably fiber rich carbs.
7) If you’re really having trouble breaking free from a good vice, try changing the ingredients in it to train your tastebuds to enjoy lower fat, less sugar, and more quality carbs. You can train yourself To WANT to eat better.
Here is an example:
Betty Crocker suggests putting a lot of oil in their cake mixes. Instead, try three ingredient cake! There’s no oil and you can add nuts to make it four ingredient cake so you don’t get tempted to use any icing.
Here is a picture of a cake I made. I may be a nutritionist but I’m still human and I still like cake on some occasions. This cake only used 1 packaged ingredient and three natural ingredients.
4 Ingredient Better For You but Still Cake... Cake
(is that a good name for a cake? Idk we can change it later if you want)
INGREDIENTS
1 box of sugar free cake mix
2 eggs
3 overly ripe bananas ( mashed with a fork)
1/2 cup crushed pecans (optional)
DIRECTIONS
Mix all of the ingredients together, reserving half of the pecans in a glass baking dish. Stir well.
Sprinkle 1/4 cup of crushed pecans over the top of batter.
Bake according to package directions.
And that is hopefully the only cake recipe you’ll ever want to use with package mix ever again. Highly processed sugary foods can lead to leaky gut, inflammation, obesity, gradual weight gain, and more problems. The best thing to do is to train yourself to eat healthier now so that you can build good habits for yourself and your family before health problems develop or get worse. Once you’re on the right track and meeting some health goals, it might be ok to have one piece of healthier modified cale maybe once every couple of months but I doubt you’ll even want to enDulge by then.
